Over the past fifteen years, whenever I met someone new at a photography event, I would take their photograph. The next time we crossed paths, I would surprise them with a print of that very photo, then snap another, this time with them holding the print. Their reactions were priceless—often a mix of surprise and delight. After a while, it became something we would both look forward to. This ritual added an extra layer of fun to encounters at events, and soon, I found myself carrying a stack of photos wherever I went. I would try to anticipate who I might see, tailoring my collection to the crowd I expected to see at each venue. There was always an element of chance. The excitement of seeing someone whose photo I had with me was matched only by the disappointment when I ran into someone whose picture I had left at home. In these informal portraits, the past mingles with the present. It is a conversation without words, a quiet exchange between photographer and subject, a shared moment in time.
