Alice Lease Dana’s interest in photography began early. Her talent was recognized when she was chosen as her high school yearbook photo editor. After a series of graduations, her work as a nurse and the responsibilities of motherhood kept her busy, but she still found time to document family life with photographs. Now that her children are grown, and she is no longer working as a nurse, she has found more time for photography.
Opportunities to travel have opened doors to new worlds, all captured by her camera. She takes photos nearly every day. Like many, she shelved her 35mm in exchange for the digital camera. Alice has kept a photographic journal for the last nine years. She prints her images and creates photographic albums documenting life.
Among the many images Alice has taken are a collection of flowers and insects. In 2010, Romancing the Bug was published, a compilation of photographs of insects on flowers and a tribute to the intimate relationships within nature. A companion exhibition showcasing these images in vintage frames was held at the National Arts Club.
Alice’s photographs have been featured in multiple exhibitions, including “Interior Lives” (National Arts Club 2014), “Whims of Weather” (National Arts Club 2015), “Primarily Color” (Atlantic Gallery 2015), “Structure in the City” (National Arts Club 2016), and “It’s All In The Details” (Atlantic Gallery 2016). She is an active member of Professional Women Photographers.
